What is it used for?
Ceftriaxone with sulbactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, such as infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin, blood, bones and joints, when prescribed by a doctor. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Ceftriaxone kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps ceftriaxone work against bacteria that produce enzymes that can make some antibiotics ineffective.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or trained healthcare professional. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection and the patient's condition. Use it only as prescribed.

Common side effects
Pain, redness or swelling at the injection site, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash and headache may occur. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to ceftriaxone, penicillins, cephalosporins or other antibiotics. Inform the doctor about liver, kidney or gallbladder problems, or a history of antibiotic-associated severe diarrhoea. Use in newborn babies and during pregnancy or breastfeeding requires specific medical advice. Do not stop treatment early unless advised by the doctor.
