What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat and tonsils, ears, sinuses, lungs, urinary tract and skin. It does not work for viral infections such as common cold or flu.
How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from forming their protective cell wall.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Take each dose at evenly spaced times and follow the product label regarding food. Do not share leftover antibiotics or use them without medical advice.
Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion and headache. Mild rash may also occur.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins or penicillin-type antibiotics, and about kidney disease. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, severe rash or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
