What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime with clavulanic acid is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, when prescribed by a doctor. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Cefpodoxime stops susceptible bacteria from building their protective cell wall. Clavulanic acid helps protect cefpodoxime from enzymes made by some resistant bacteria, allowing it to work more effectively.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve, and do not share it with others. If a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless it is nearly time for the next dose; do not double the dose.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain or discomfort, headache and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins, penicillins or related antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney disease, previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash. Use only for a confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infection as prescribed.
