What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the throat, sinuses, chest, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from building their protective cell wall, which kills the bacteria and helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Swallow with water and do not share or use leftover antibiotics. The dose and treatment duration depend on the infection and kidney function.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and headache. Mild rash may also occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins or certain penicillin-type antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney disease, allergies or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use only for a confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infection.
