What is it used for?
This combination is used to treat certain bacterial or protozoal infections, especially infectious diarrhoea and dysentery, when prescribed by a doctor. It is not useful for most viral diarrhoea or common stomach upsets.

How does it work?
Ofloxacin stops the growth of susceptible bacteria. Ornidazole acts against certain parasites and anaerobic bacteria by damaging their genetic material.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the course, even if symptoms improve. Swallow with water. Keep it separate from antacids or mineral supplements containing calcium, magnesium, aluminium or iron as advised by the doctor or pharmacist. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 3 days after the last dose.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness and a metallic or unpleasant taste may occur.

Precautions
Use only on medical advice. Tell the doctor about pregnancy, breastfeeding, kidney or liver problems, seizures, heart-rhythm problems, tendon disorders or previous reactions to quinolone antibiotics. Stop the medicine and seek medical help for tendon pain or swelling, numbness or tingling, severe dizziness, palpitations, severe or persistent diarrhoea, rash or breathing difficulty.
