What is it used for?
Ofloxacin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from multiplying by blocking enzymes needed for their growth and repair.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed by a doctor and follow the instructions on the product label. The dose and duration depend on the infection, age, kidney function and dosage form. Complete the prescribed course unless a doctor advises otherwise. Do not share or use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, headache, dizziness and difficulty sleeping may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney disease, seizures, heart rhythm problems, tendon disorders, diabetes, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any previous reaction to quinolone antibiotics. Stop using it and seek medical advice for tendon pain or swelling, numbness or tingling, severe mood or nerve symptoms, fainting, severe diarrhoea or a serious allergic reaction. Avoid unnecessary exposure to strong sunlight. Take it only with advice if using medicines or supplements containing antacids, iron, calcium or zinc, as these may reduce absorption.
