What is it used for?
Cefuroxime axetil is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the throat, chest, sinuses, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by interfering with the formation of their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and preferably after food. Swallow the tablet whole with water and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not skip doses or share this medicine with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to cefuroxime, other cephalosporin antibiotics or certain penicillin-type antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, or severe or bloody diarrhoea. Use only on medical advice, as unnecessary antibiotic use can promote resistance.
