What is it used for?
This prescription injection is used to treat serious bacterial infections. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Ceftriaxone kills bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall. Tazobactam helps protect ceftriaxone from enzymes made by some resistant bacteria.

How to take/use it
It is given by a doctor or nurse as an injection into a vein or muscle. The dose, frequency and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, so follow the healthcare professional’s instructions. Do not self-inject or stop treatment early.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, skin rash, and pain, redness or swelling at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to ceftriaxone, other cephalosporins, penicillins or other antibiotics. Inform the doctor about kidney or liver problems, gallbladder disease, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, severe skin rash, or severe or bloody diarrhoea. This medicine requires special precautions in newborn babies and with calcium-containing intravenous solutions.
