What is it used for?
Bisacodyl 5 mg is a stimulant laxative used for short-term relief of occasional constipation. It may also be used to empty the bowel before certain medical procedures, when directed by a healthcare professional.

How does it work?
It stimulates movement of the large intestine and helps increase water in the stool, making it easier to pass.

How to take/use it
Take by mouth only as directed on the product label or by a healthcare professional. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew or crush it. Do not use it for longer than recommended. Avoid taking it at the same time as milk or antacids.

Common side effects
Abdominal cramps, stomach discomfort, nausea and diarrhoea.

Precautions
Do not use it if there is severe abdominal pain, suspected intestinal blockage, severe dehydration, nausea or vomiting unless advised by a healthcare professional. Drink adequate fluids. Prolonged or frequent use may cause dehydration or changes in body salts. Seek medical advice if constipation continues, symptoms worsen, or there is blood in the stool.
