What is it used for?
Aztreonam 500 mg is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious infections caused by certain bacteria, especially Gram-negative bacteria. It may be used for infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin, blood or reproductive organs, as determined by the doctor.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by blocking the formation of their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, kidney function and medical advice. Do not self-inject or stop treatment early.

Common side effects
Pain, redness or swelling at the injection site; diarrhoea; nausea or vomiting; skin rash; and headache.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any previous allergy to aztreonam or other antibiotics, and about kidney or liver problems. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe rash. Contact a doctor if severe or persistent diarrhoea develops during or after treatment, as this may indicate a serious intestinal infection.
