What is it used for?
Azithromycin 200 mg is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including some infections of the throat, ears, chest, skin and other parts of the body. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.
How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and multiply.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and follow the instructions on the label. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve, and do not share or save leftover medicine. Do not take more than directed.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain and headache may occur.
Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics. Tell the doctor about liver disease, irregular heartbeat, QT prolongation, low potassium or magnesium, or use of medicines that can affect heart rhythm. Seek medical advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, a severe rash, swelling or breathing difficulty.
