What is it used for?
Atorvastatin is used to lower high cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It also helps reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people at increased cardiovascular risk.

How does it work?
It reduces the liver’s production of cholesterol and helps remove excess cholesterol from the blood.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water and take it at the same time each day. Continue dietary and lifestyle advice given by the healthcare professional. Do not stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, indigestion, diarrhoea, constipation, and muscle aches may occur. Contact a healthcare professional promptly for unexplained or severe muscle pain, weakness, or dark urine.

Precautions
Tell the healthcare professional about liver disease, heavy alcohol use, thyroid problems, kidney problems, or a history of muscle problems.
