What is it used for?
Cefixime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the throat, ears, airways, urinary tract and other areas, when caused by bacteria sensitive to it. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. It may be taken with or without food. Do not share this medicine or use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain, indigestion, vomiting and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Inform the doctor if there is an allergy to cefixime, other cephalosporin antibiotics or penicillin-type antibiotics, or if there is kidney disease. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, bloody stools, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
