What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, throat, lungs, urinary tract or skin. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from forming their protective cell wall, which prevents the infection from spreading.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed by the doctor. If supplied as a dry powder, reconstitute it exactly as directed on the label or by the pharmacist. Shake well before each use and measure with an oral syringe or measuring spoon. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and headache. Mild skin rash may also occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there is a history of serious allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney disease or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Keep out of reach of children.
