What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the ears, throat, sinuses, lungs, urinary tract and skin, when prescribed by a doctor. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making their protective cell wall, which kills the bacteria and helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Disperse the tablet in water as directed on the product label or by the pharmacist. Do not skip doses or share this antibiotic with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion and headache. Mild skin rash may also occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins, penicillins or other antibiotics. Medical advice is important if there is kidney disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Contact a doctor for severe or persistent diarrhoea, or seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash.
