What is it used for?
This medicine is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when one medicine alone is not enough.

How does it work?
Glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin, while metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and improves the body's response to insulin. Together, they help lower blood sugar.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with a meal to reduce stomach upset and the risk of low blood sugar. Swallow the prolonged-release tablet whole; do not crush or chew it. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Low blood sugar, nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, vomiting, loss of appetite and a metallic taste may occur. Metformin may rarely cause vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term use.

Precautions
Monitor blood sugar as advised. Do not skip meals, as this may increase the risk of low blood sugar. Avoid excessive alcohol. Tell the doctor about kidney, liver or heart problems, severe infection, dehydration, or upcoming surgery or contrast-dye scans. Seek urgent medical help for severe or persistent weakness, breathing difficulty, unusual sleepiness, or confusion. This medicine is not used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
