What is it used for?
Amoxicillin with clavulanic acid is an antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, sinuses, throat, chest, urinary tract, skin and teeth, when prescribed by a doctor. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Amoxicillin kills susceptible bacteria by blocking the formation of their protective cell wall. Clavulanic acid helps prevent certain bacteria from breaking down amoxicillin, making the antibiotic effective against some resistant bacteria.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably with a meal to reduce stomach upset. Swallow with water and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not share antibiotics or use leftover medicine.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, indigestion, skin rash and thrush may occur.

Precautions
Do not take this medicine if there has been a serious allergy to penicillin, amoxicillin, clavulanic acid or related antibiotics. Inform the doctor about kidney or liver disease and any previous antibiotic-related jaundice or liver problems. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe skin rash, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
