What is it used for?
Amoxycillin is an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by bacteria, such as certain infections of the ear, throat, chest, skin, urinary tract and teeth. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Swallow the capsule with water. Do not share leftover antibiotics or use them without medical advice.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a previous serious allergy to amoxycillin, penicillin or related antibiotics. Seek medical help for difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, a severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Inform the doctor about kidney problems, pregnancy, breastfeeding or any other medicines being taken.
