What is it used for?
Amoxycillin is an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria, such as certain infections of the ear, throat, chest, urinary tract and skin. It does not work for viral infections such as common cold or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by interfering with the formation of their protective cell wall, helping to clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. It may be taken with food if it causes stomach upset. Do not share antibiotics or use leftover medicine.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a previous serious allergy to amoxycillin, penicillin or related antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney problems or a history of antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek urgent medical help for difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, a severe rash, or persistent or bloody diarrhoea.
