What is it used for?
Amoxycillin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, throat, chest, urinary tract, skin and teeth. It does not work against viral infections such as common colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from making a protective cell wall, which stops the infection from spreading.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at evenly spaced times, with water. Complete the prescribed course even if symptoms improve. Do not take leftover antibiotics or share this medicine with others.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to amoxycillin, penicillin or related antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek urgent medical help for swelling of the face or throat, breathing difficulty, a severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
