What is it used for?
Amoxycillin with clavulanic acid is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, skin, urinary tract and teeth. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Amoxycillin kills susceptible bacteria. Clavulanic acid helps protect amoxycillin from enzymes made by some bacteria, allowing it to work against a wider range of infections.

How to take/use it
Reconstitute the dry syrup exactly as directed on the label or by the pharmacist. Shake well before each use and measure with an oral syringe or measuring spoon. Take it with food if advised to reduce stomach upset, and complete the prescribed course even if feeling better. Do not use leftover medicine or share it with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use if allergic to amoxycillin, penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Tell the doctor about previous antibiotic-related jaundice or liver problems, kidney disease, or a history of severe allergies. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, severe skin rash, persistent or bloody diarrhoea, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
