What is it used for?
This antibiotic is used to treat bacterial infections, such as certain infections of the ear, sinuses, throat, lungs, urinary tract, skin and teeth, when caused by bacteria sensitive to it. It does not treat viral infections such as the common cold or flu.

How does it work?
Amoxycillin kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall. Potassium clavulanate helps prevent some bacteria from breaking down amoxycillin, making it effective against a wider range of bacteria.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. If supplied as a dry syrup, it must be prepared as directed and shaken well before each use. Measure each dose with the supplied measuring device. Do not use leftover medicine or share it with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use if allergic to penicillin, amoxycillin or other beta-lactam antibiotics, unless specifically advised by a doctor. Tell the doctor about previous antibiotic-related jaundice or liver problems, kidney disease, or a history of severe antibiotic allergy. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, a severe rash, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use only on medical advice, especially in children.
