What is it used for?
Amoxycillin with potassium clavulanate injection is used to treat certain bacterial infections, including serious infections when treatment by injection is needed. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Amoxycillin kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall. Clavulanate helps protect amoxycillin from enzymes made by some bacteria, allowing it to work against a wider range of infections.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given into a vein by a healthcare professional. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, kidney function and other factors, so it should be used exactly as prescribed. It should not be self-administered.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, injection-site discomfort and irritation of the vein may occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to penicillins, cephalosporins or similar antibiotics. Tell the healthcare professional about kidney or liver problems and any previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea or colitis. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, severe rash, persistent or bloody diarrhoea, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
