What is it used for?
This medicine is used to reduce heavy menstrual bleeding and relieve period pain or cramps.
How does it work?
Tranexamic acid helps prevent the breakdown of blood clots, reducing menstrual blood loss. Mefenamic acid reduces substances that cause pain, inflammation and menstrual cramps.
How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed, usually during the menstrual period. Swallow the tablet with water, preferably with or after food. Do not take more or use it for longer than advised.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain or indigestion, headache and dizziness.
Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is a history of blood clots, kidney disease, stomach ulcer or bleeding, asthma triggered by painkillers, or an allergy to NSAID painkillers. Avoid taking it with other NSAID painkillers unless advised. Seek urgent medical help for chest pain, breathlessness, sudden leg swelling or pain, unusual vision changes, vomiting blood, or black stools.
