What is it used for?
Cefuroxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, ears, sinuses, chest, skin, and urinary tract. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.
How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from forming their protective cell wall.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Take the medicine with water and do not share it with others. Do not stop treatment or change the dose without medical advice.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, headache, and skin rash may occur.
Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to cefuroxime, cephalosporins, penicillins, or related antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney problems, previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea, or any medicine allergies. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe skin rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use antibiotics only when prescribed.
