What is it used for?
Fexofenadine is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose, itchy or watery eyes, and skin hives (urticaria).
How does it work?
It blocks the action of histamine, a chemical involved in allergic reactions. This helps reduce allergy symptoms and itching.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as directed on the label or by a doctor. Swallow the tablet with water. Avoid taking it with apple, orange or grapefruit juice, as these may reduce its effect. If using antacids containing aluminium or magnesium, ask a pharmacist or doctor about separating their use from fexofenadine.
Common side effects
Headache, nausea, dizziness and mild tiredness may occur. Drowsiness is uncommon but possible.
Precautions
Tell a doctor before use if there is kidney disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Avoid driving or operating machinery if dizziness or drowsiness occurs. Seek medical advice if allergy symptoms are severe, persistent or associated with breathing difficulty or swelling of the face, lips or throat.
