What is it used for?
Povidone iodine 5% is a topical antiseptic used to help prevent infection in minor cuts, grazes, and superficial wounds, and to disinfect the skin.
How does it work?
It slowly releases iodine, which kills or reduces many bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other germs on the skin.
How to take/use it
For external use only. Apply to clean, affected skin as directed on the product label or by a healthcare professional. Do not swallow it, and avoid contact with the eyes.
Common side effects
Temporary skin irritation, redness, dryness, or stinging may occur. Rarely, allergic skin reactions can develop.
Precautions
Do not use if allergic to povidone iodine. Avoid applying to the eyes, large areas of skin, deep wounds, serious burns, or prolonged periods unless advised by a healthcare professional. Seek medical care for deep, heavily contaminated, or infected wounds, or if irritation persists. Keep out of reach of children.
