What is it used for?
Povidone iodine 5% is a topical antiseptic used to help prevent or reduce infection in minor cuts, grazes and other superficial skin wounds.
How does it work?
It slowly releases iodine, which kills many types of bacteria, fungi and viruses on the skin.
How to take/use it
For external use only. Clean the affected area and apply the product as directed on its label. Do not use it in the eyes, mouth or other body openings unless specifically intended for that use.
Common side effects
Mild skin irritation, redness, itching, dryness or temporary brown staining may occur. Serious allergic reactions are uncommon.
Precautions
Do not use on large areas, deep wounds, serious burns or for prolonged periods without medical advice. Avoid use if allergic to povidone iodine. Seek medical advice before use in people with thyroid disease, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or in young infants. Stop use and seek help if severe irritation, swelling or breathing difficulty occurs.
