What is it used for?
Acyclovir eye ointment is used to treat herpes simplex infection of the eye, including herpes-related inflammation of the cornea.

How does it work?
It is an antiviral medicine that becomes active in infected cells and stops the herpes virus from multiplying.

How to take/use it
Use it in the affected eye exactly as prescribed. Wash hands before and after use, and avoid touching the eye or eyelashes with the ointment tube tip. Vision may be blurred briefly after application. Do not wear contact lenses unless advised by an eye specialist.

Common side effects
Temporary stinging, burning, irritation or blurred vision after application.

Precautions
For eye use only. Do not use if allergic to acyclovir or related antiviral medicines. Seek medical advice if eye pain, redness or vision problems worsen, or if signs of an allergic reaction occur. Use only under medical supervision for a suspected herpes eye infection.
