What is it used for?
Cefixime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ears, throat, airways, urinary tract and other infections when prescribed by a doctor. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from forming their protective cell wall, which helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. The dispersible tablet should be taken as directed on the product label or by the doctor. Do not share leftover antibiotics with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain, indigestion, vomiting, headache and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to cefixime, other cephalosporins or certain penicillin antibiotics, unless specifically advised by a doctor. Tell the doctor about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a widespread skin rash.
